European Championship on snipe - 2026
The European Championship on Snipe is a biennial event. This year, at the request of the international club, it was held for the first time in France, in Normandy, in the legendary Cotentin marshes, between Sainte-Mère-Église and Carentan.
The trials took place from Tuesday, March 24th to Thursday, March 26th.
Approximately 40 dogs came from Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Ukraine, and France.
- Magnificent grounds in the Cotentin Marshes National Park.
- Typical Irish weather, ideal for snipe, which were found in large numbers.
- An international jury, composed of judges from Italy, Ireland, Switzerland, and France.
- A fantastic atmosphere, as always at our Irish Setter trials.
- And of course, a huge thank you to Jean-François Meret, very involved in organizing the event.
Tuesday march 24th
This first day was dedicated to familiarizing all the dogs with the Cotentin marshes. The results do not count towards the European Championship.

At the end of these two days of the European Championship, SHANNON, with her CACIT, was undeniably crowned European Champion. Gimac PETRA, Sheantullagh DART, and Sheantullagh TADHG all having been awarded 1 EXC, a barrage was necessary to determine the Vice-Champion.
The jury, composed of Jim Sheridan, Mario Pansera, and Jean Philippe Julien, designated Gimak PETRA as Vice-Champion of Europe.
Congratulations to the owners and handlers of these two brilliant Irish female dogs, and also to the breeders who brought them into life.
